Conservative Beach Girl has a post up linking the information she has collected on Nazanin, the young girl sentenced to die for defending herself - and her relative, as I remember - against rape. The man who attacked her died when she stabbed him. Of course, if you’re a woman in Iran and need to leave the house, you’d better do so armed. If not, you could well be raped and thus sentenced to die for violating Iran’s draconian sexual laws. And if you defend yourself, you could end up sentenced to death anyway for defending yourself.
Beach Girl is urging people to call on Representative Ellison to make this his cause célèbre. When you think about it, he could draw as much notice - and in America, all or most of it positive notice - for taking a strong, unyielding stand on Nazarin’s fate as he did for his much-heralded decision to use a Koran for his swearing-in.
As I said before, Mr. Ellison’s symbolism must be followed by action if he is to win the respect of his constituents and the larger American populace.
By the way, Beach Girl has an interesting link to the bills currently sponsored by Ellison. The first bill, H.R. 4954, is concerned with port security, a very bipartisan issue. Mr. Ellison is sponsoring this himself; I haven’t read the details, but I will. And I recommend that you do the same.
No conservative is going to agree with a Democrat’s congressional goals. For instance, his “tax relief extension” program disturbs my supply-side soul. Nonetheless, there have to be places where we can agree.
Public pronouncements about the fate of Nazanin could be one such place.
Thanks, Beach Girl, for the link-rich post. Lots of work there.

Not sure what Ellison's story is. LGF linked to his site, which defends Israel in a commonplace way (roadmap and all that jazz) and sounded hawkish on iran (for which reason i doubt that he can help much to save the unfortunate woman). On the other hand, he has ties to CAIR and has embraced a religion that leads to domination, tension, and ultimately violence.
Yet some of what we know of him isn't terrible.
It would be fabulous if Ellison does this. I honestly hope I will be wrong, but I bet he won't. He could stand up to CAIR quite a bit, they would take it, cuz they need him so much, but I don't think he has the courage or the integrity.
