In contrast, America is a hotbed of atavistic Christian zealotry and puritanical repression.
How, then, can one explain the persistent politically incorrect attitudes of a majority of Europeans? Could it be that fifty years of dedicated effort by Gramscian pedagogues and Socialist governments have been in vain?
Is it possible that Europeans are actually — gasp! — WAYCISTS?
Based on the following brief article from Algemeen Dagblad, we are compelled to draw exactly that conclusion. Many thanks to our Flemish correspondent VH for the translation:
Europeans: Too many immigrants in my country- - - - - - - - -
Half of Europeans believes that there are too many immigrants in their country. Overall, one in two Europeans have prejudices against immigrants, religious groups, or minorities, as indicated by a German report that surveyed 8,000 Europeans from eight countries.
Concerning religions, the study stated that 54% of the respondents find Islam an intolerant religion. 22% of respondents believe that most Muslims justify terrorism. About Jews they are positive: 62% believe that Jews enrich their culture.
Equal rights for homosexuals are rejected by 43%. In Eastern European countries the greatest hostility to gay people is found, while it is the smallest in the Netherlands. Of the Poles, 88% are of the opinion that gay men and lesbians should not marry; in the Netherlands, however, 83% are of the opinion that it should be allowed..
In Poland, 87% of the respondents think that married women should their role as mothers more seriously.
That last statistic invites intervention by the feministas of the European Union.
What’s wrong with those Poles? Is it the fault of their pre-1989 education?
Did their communist leaders forget to tell them that tradition gender roles arise from a socially-constructed paradigm of the oppressive patriarchy?
The horror!

It is one of the greatest ironies in history that political correctness was forced onto the people of western Europe/America by communists and communist sympathizers, but the communists running Russia/eastern Europe kept that kind of ideological poison out of their countries.
Godffrey - you make an interesting point. Is it because Communist regimes employed the idea of nation whereas PC regimes vilify it?
Gentlemen - both are incorrect.
Eastern europe is non-pc largely because PC reeks of communism. The same basic claptrap slogans applied to spheres other than economics. The same ideological denial of reality.
The USSR promoted internationalism and anti-nationalism, racial equality policies (the brotherhood of communists, anti-colonialism etc) effectively feminist policies (women were expected to work, up to driving tractors and heavy industrial labor too), de facto if not de-jure anti-family policies (tiny tiny apartments), anti-christian policies.
Poland, Hungary etc did maintain nations, but the true commies believed this to be an recidivistic passing phase in development.
There will be no pc in eastern europe for at least another 20-30 years as long as the generation that remembers commusim remains active. Hopefully the infection will have passed by then.
@Fellow Peacekeeper
that's a lesson for us -
the Eastern Europeans recognise it for what it is, and they would know.
Peacekeeper - it seems to me though that the USSR's Communism was less harmful to its member states than the Eu's Political Correctness is to its member states.
Does anybody know the name/location of this original German study? It would be fascinating to read...

This is a mistaken perception. Political Correctness was invented and perfected in Soviet Bloc societies while being used to great effect. It manifested in the form of Political Orthodoxy, as in collectivism and disparagement of the Profit Motive.
That is was so successfully exported is more of a wonder than the current backlash against Political Correctness that currently manifests in some post-Warsaw Pact nations. Fellow Peacekeeper's previous observations are far more salient to this matter.

I would wager that is because Europe has much farther to fall than Soviet-era Russia ever did. Bolshevik Russia was already near bottom and little remained but the Communists digging an even deeper hole for it. There is far more damage that can be done in Europe and the West by those infected with this toxic mentality.
Once Europeans get a belly full of Political Correctness, expect some Ceauşescu-style reprisals by indigenous populations who are fed up to the teeth with the ongoing betrayals by their Vulture Elite™.
"it seems to me though that the USSR's Communism was less harmful to its member states than the Eu's Political Correctness is to its member states".
Until the EU murders 60 million of its citizens and locks the rest up behind an iron curtain to be harried by stasi agents 24/7, the above statement is foolish on its merits and that's being polite.
Of course, when "liberals" speak about "equal rights for 'gays'," what they really mean is special privileges for 'gays.'
“Of the Poles, 88% are of the opinion that gay men and lesbians should not marry; …”
But, of course, these Poles are of no such opinion; rather, they are of the opinion that “same-sex marriage” is a contradiction in terms.
