Five Years Old

Today is the fifth anniversary of the founding of this blog.

Bored ChildSuppose that back when we first undertook this task someone said to me, “You know, what you’re starting up right now will make you investigate terrorist training camps in rural Virginia, and then travel to Denmark, Brussels, and Austria — all within five years!”

What would have been my response?

I’d have said, “Hey, don’t bogart that thing, gimme a hit off it — whatever it is you’re smokin’, it must be some really good stuff!”

Yes, it’s been a pretty wild five-year roller-coaster ride. Let’s see if we can hang on for another five and make it an even decade.

What will things look like in five more years? Will Barack Hussein Obama still be president?

What will Slotervaart look like by then? Or Malmö?
- - - - - - - - -
How much will we pay for a gallon of gas?

Will there be any gas?

*   *   *   *   *   *   *   *   *   *   *   *   *   *   *

Normally at this point I would thank all our contributors, translators, and tipsters. But the list has gotten huge, and I’m not at home, so I don’t have access to my Magical Vanishing Memory Machine. In my absent-mindedness I’d be sure to leave somebody out.

So I’ll just say thanks to everybody. You all know who you are, anyway.

And wouldn't you know the Nobel Committee would ruin a fine anniversary? What a dark cloud on an otherwise fine day.

Many happy returns to one of the best there is. Gates of Vienna may one day be recognized as a seminal attempt to roll back Islam in the West. You deserve every ounce of credit for the vital work that goes on at this site. Thank you so much and Happy Birthday!

Happy birthday, Dymphna! I remember when I discovered your blog for the first time. Seems like ages ago now. You have taken a few beatings over the years, but you are still going strong.

Hey - what about awarding GoV the Nobel Prize instead? It sure has produced more results than Big O :)

I remember also getting references to GoV from time to time, finding interesting stuff there. Then starting commenting - and magically, friends and ideas appear. Not bad, not at all.

Congratulations, and let's see what happens next.

Seems like only yesterday you cleaved from Belmont's Comments Club.

While we're at it, let's invite the great scholars of our time. I'm sure they will come.

And, hey, let's go speak our cause at the OSCE, too.

We're having a good time with this :)

Congratulations and thanks for the the great work you do!

Because of the timely proximity, I wonder did the Beslan attack have anything to do with the birth of GoV? I was prompted by Beslan to look a bit more closely at Islam and could at first hardly believe what I learned.

Congratulations, Baron and Dymphna. You show much bravery and persistence. Let us hope that within the next five years, enough people will have heeded your message so that we in the West shall shake off the multicultural delusion that is haunting us, wake up, and get to work.

Although I have missed out most of those years I still wish you a happy birthday.

So it's appropiate to celebrate the day with a song.

Happy, Happy, Joy, Joy! I think I have been coming to GOV for about three years now. I remember doing a google search "Gates of vienna" out of interest in the siege and found you guys by luck. At that time I had no idea how deep the Islamic rabbit hole went. Thank you so much for opening up my eyes. I often say that that GOV and its commenters are akin to taking a college course.

Well tomorow is my birthday...49 for those that need to know.

I hope when the blog gets to 49, it is counted as a "history blog" because we have already WON!

Keep it up, and thanks that you care!!! :-)

PS. I know it would be difficult and downright risky in some respects, but I would love to one day meet the Baron, yourself and many of the commenters here in the flesh one day. Have you ever thought about organizing a one off or semi annual meet and greet for GOV regulars.

Wow, five years... that's really not so long, but so much has changed. I became a regular reader right after your third birthday, and so much has changed even since then.

С днём рождения!

Congratulations and thank you for keeping the blog! I've been reading for about a year and a half now. I don't post comments very often, but I do check the blog almost every day.

That there’s almost no face-to-face community and real-world activism in the counter-Jihad movement handicaps us. No revolution will be made by people who are not within driving distance of one another. Meetings are essential.

Dymphna & the Baron,

I'd like to add my congratulations,I appreciate(1) the civil standard of discussion that is maintained on this site and (2) the informative historical essays in reference to Islam and the West.

It's a refreshing break from the ad hominem arguments and personal abuse that deface many other sites.

Happy Birthday to the five-year-old! Although young in chronological age, it is an elder in its world.

I have always considered "Gates of Vienna" a keystone of the blogs (blocks) against the invasion of the (Islamic) brain-snatchers.

Speaking of that bleaguering horde, what we missed were the warning signs of what was about to happen, before it did.

at one of the two sieges of Vienna by the Turks (Tuerkenbelagerungen), the enemy's tunneling underneath the walls of Vienna were detected by slight movements of the water surface in jars stored in subterranean areas.

When the entire Western World was silently invaded by Islamic hordes--"asylum seekers," waves upon waves of immigrants seeking "a better life" (welfare), and Moslems on jihad to retake any lands once occupied by Islam and then some, no one was watching the symbolic water surface of symbolic water in symbolic jars.

At any case, the young child "Gates of Vienna," realizes that this time around, there are no "gates' to be held against the Turk.

He already is in Vienna, Germany, Switzerland, etc. And not only the Turk but other Saracens from all over the Islamic world are way past the Gates of Vienna that today are only your and our state of mind.

Let this serve as a "Festschrift zum Fuenfsten Geburtstag" of a child that as it grows will help restore the state of mind that existed twice before when the Turks were turned back in defeat at The Gates of Vienna.

Thank you for much enjoyable and educational posting. Keep it up.

Nobel committee should have given you the prize.

I agree that the Nobel committee should have given the prize to them. And the fact that they gave it to President Hussein makes me mad as hell...

Happy blogoversary, Baron and Dymphna. Many happy returns.

As I said in a comment a few days ago, I haven't been reading GoV as much as I used to. I'll have to see what I can do about that. It's just that there are so many good blogs and precious few hours in the day.

At any rate, I never hesitate to recommend your blog to others.
