‘CDA, PvdA, VVD Involved with Islamisation Movement’

THE HAGUE, 11/07/08 — Prominent members of the Christian democratic (CDA), Labour (PvdA) and conservative (VVD) parties appear to be involved with the controversial movement of Turkish Imam Fethullah Gulen. Among them is ‘integration through dialogue’ guru Doekle Terspstra (CDA), according to Elsevier magazine.

Last week, TV programme Nova reported that numerous organisations in the Netherlands are affiliated to the Gulen movement. They appear to act as though they consider integration important, but are in reality aiming for Islamisation, various sources told Nova. One of these organisations is the association of Turkish entrepreneurs in the Netherlands, HOGIAF, according to the programme.

HOGIAF’s advisory board consists of prominent members of CDA, PvdA and VVD, the traditional ‘big three’ in Dutch politics. On behalf of CDA, as well as Doekle Terpstra, former Economic Affairs State Secretary Yvonne van Rooy is a member. For the PvdA, the FNV union federation’s former chairman Lodewijk de Waal is on the HOGIAF committee, as is former Utrecht mayor Annie Brouwer. And former VVD MP Bibi de Vries is also a member, according to Elsevier.

JEDDAH: Justice P.K. Shamsuddin, former judge at Kerala High Court, has emphasized that all basic human rights are protected in Islam. “The rules and regulations in Islam are rich enough to make a universal human rights declaration,” he said

MEDITERRANEAN UNION: WE COULD NOT STAY OUT, ALGERIA

(ANSAmed) — ALGIERS, JULY 9 — Algeria “could not afford to remain on the sidelines of a meeting such as the international conference which will unite 42 countries in Paris” but the “support to the Palestinian cause and to other Arab causes remains unchanged and cannot be traded”. Thus Algerian Communication Minister Abderrachid Boukerzaza explained at the weekly news conference the announcement Nicolas Sarkozy made on Monday in Japan about the participation of Algerian President Abdelaziz Bouteflika in the July 13 summit in Paris for the launch of the Union for the Mediterranean. “Algeria played an essential role for the speeding up and deepening of the agreement to define the Arab positions on the project of the Union for the Mediterranean” and “could not allow itself to remain on the sidelines of this meeting”, Boukerzaza said.


Abu Qatada, Osama Bin Laden’s right-hand man, shopping in London

Abu Qatada, the man once described as Osama bin Laden’s right hand man in Europe, was pictured out walking the streets on the third anniversary of the 7/7 terror bombings.

It was taken on Monday, the anniversary of the July 7 attacks, and can now be published after a court order banning recent pictures of the preacher was lifted.


ISTAT: MORE FOREIGNERS, BOOM IN ROMANIANS

(AGI) — Rome, 3 July. — There were 600 thousand declared Romanians in Italy who were registered at the public records office. This was announced by Istat in its demographic statistics. During 2007, Istat recorded that, at the public records office, that 558,019 people were foreigners. The institute explained that this was “due, for the most part, to the entrance of Romania and Bulgaria in the European Union, which has meant that citizens from these countries can register as EC members. The consequence is that almost half of the new registries were carried out by Romanians whose presence in Italy is at around 600,000. In the course of 2007, the transference of residents within the country is at around 1.5 million people and is mainly due to people moving from the southern regions of Italy to the north except for Abruzzo and Sardinia and the northern and central regions. The migration within the country is due to resident foreigners in Italy who follow commuter lines similar to those followed by the Italian and they are very mobile.

Matoub, dubbed the ‘Rebel’ for his opposition to the Islamic extremists and to the Algerian power, was killed at 42 on June 25, 1998 in an ambush in broad daylight near his home village, Taourirt Moussa.


IMMIGRATION: EU, FRANCE-SPAIN COMPROMISE ON EUROPEAN PACT

(ANSAmed) — MADRID, JULY 4 — France and Spain reached a compromise on the project of a ‘European Pact on Immigration’ at the end of a ministerial meeting held in Madrid yesterday, official French sources said. The project, which is supported by Paris in its European Union presidency, is aimed at making the European policy on immigration stricter and adopting common rules for the 27 EU member states.


Cartoonist murder suspects part of ‘terror network’

Plans to kill the bomb-in-the-turban cartoonist were just one of several acts planned by a terror cell, according to intelligence reports

Three men arrested on suspicion of planning the murder of Mohammed cartoonist Kurt Westergaard in February were part of a terrorist network based in the city of Århus, according to intelligence agency information.

According to reports obtained by Politiken newspaper, the group had plans to commit acts of terrorism in addition to their alleged plans to strangle Westergaard in retaliation for drawing a cartoon of the prophet Mohammed wearing a bomb-shaped turban.

Russian telecom operators have drawn up plans to re-route data and call traffic to avoid Swedish eavesdropping, following the passing of Sweden’s new law giving spying agency FRA increased powers to intercept communications.

Russian newspaper RBK writes that Russian telecom operators see the new law “as an attempt at industrial espionage at state level, and are prepared to bypass Sweden if necessary,” according to a translation in Swedish daily Svenska Dagbladet.

‘Sold’ by her father, Rasha gets no help from court

TAIF: When Rasha registered for high school a few years ago, she discovered that her estranged father had married her off without her knowledge to a man in his 80s in exchange for a SR30,000 (about $8,000) dowry payment. Now a court has denied her appeals to divorce the man.

“The officials at the girls education department discovered that my file had no birth certificate except a temporary one from the hospital where I was born,” Rasha told Al-Riyadh daily in a report published yesterday.

“They asked me to bring my father’s identity card or a printout from the Civil Affairs Directorate. After searching through my papers, they gave me the shock of my life when they told me that my father had married me to an 85-year-old man when I was just 10 years old, and that I am his fourth wife.”

Now the 18-year-old resident of Taif is appealing to the government and the National Society for Human Rights to intervene after a local judge declined to grant the divorce, even after a donor agreed to reimburse the dowry money that the old man was demanding to terminate the marriage.


Muslim woman too “radical” to be French: court

France has denied citizenship to a veiled Moroccan woman on the grounds that her “radical” practice of Islam is incompatible with basic French values such as equality of the sexes, a legal ruling showed on Friday.

The case will reignite debate about how to reconcile freedom of religion, which is guaranteed by the French constitution, and other fundamental rights, which many in France feel are being challenged by the way of life of some Muslims.


Saudi girl stars in gritty Hollywood movie

A controversial Hollywood film about the rude sexual awakening of a young Arab-American girl is set to be released this summer, according to recent press reports.

Twenty-year-old Saudi-American actress, Summer Bishil, plays the lead role in Towelhead, a film about a teenage girl who comes of age in Texas during the 1991 Gulf war.
