He’s dead.
Lots of news reports out there; here’s the Daily Mail version, with photos, etc. Rather than recap, here’s some boxed information from that page:
First highlight:
Questions are now being asked as to why Toulouse terrorist Mohammad Merah was allowed to roam free for so long. There are pictures of the brother with a pink towel thrown over his head as his fine handcuffed self is led away. Now that’s a true jihad photo.
The French-Algerian had been on a French security service ‘watch list’ since 2008.
And, since the first in the series of attacks, he was placed on a list of possible suspects alongside his older brother Abdelkader.
But little was done to trace them until the Jewish school massacre.
Mohammad, a member of a small extremist Islamist group run by his brother that security services believed was ‘harmless’, was arrested by U.S. authorities in Afghanistan in 2008 and sent home to France.
But he travelled back to the Afghan-Pakistani border last year.
His brother is currently under arrest, suspected of helping, or even masterminding, the attacks.
Suspected [sic] serial killer Mohammad Mera, who broke out of an Afghanistan jail in 2008 as part of a mass Taliban escape, once kidnapped another man, it has been reported.
A close family friend of the 24-year-old suspect told Le Parisien she knew him well while in the city’s Izards housing estate.
The woman, Laela, said: ‘He was well known to the police. Around two years ago he kidnapped a young person on the estate.
‘I remember that the mother of the boy in question was wandering around the estate trying to find him.
‘Finally, her son was freed. And I’m convinced then a complaint was lodged, and Mohammad was heard by investigating officers.’
Following the kidnapping, for which he was never charged, he is said to have ‘crossed the estate in combat gear, with a sword in his hand shouting ‘Al Qaeda, Al Qaeda!’.
Describing his family as ‘charming people’, Laela said: ‘His mother finally left after divorcing her husband.’
This family split, she said, may have contributed to his slip into anti-social behaviour. But the main reason was Islamic fundamentalism.
She said: ‘He was a normal kid who was radicalised. He had exchanges with people on the internet, but also frequently met other Islamists in the region.
‘On the estate, he wanted to indoctrinate younger children. One day, for example, he grabbed my little nephew, and took him to a car where he showed him some horrible videos.
‘There were scenes of decapitation, things going on in Afghanistan, or images showing the horror of the war.’
More aftermath:
This one is a video report from Fox News.
Meanwhile in Jerusalem, the Jewish victims were buried.
Well, he got the drama he wanted, at the expense of some more damage to the Evil Satan as they took him down. Now the chattering class will dither/decide whether this fellow’s brutal murders helped/hurt Sarkozy and LePen vis-à-vis the coming elections. Your guess or mine is every bit as good as theirs; the only difference being they are paid to extrude banalities while we expect truth from y'all - courteous truth, mind you.
Many thanks to Vlad Tepes for uploading this MSNBC report about the ongoing standoff in Toulouse:

A Mohammed coefficient of 100%.
Don't hard core Jihadist just kill, and then Kill themselves?? Something is off about this.
In jihad you are not allowed to kill yourself. The idea is to get straight to Paradise by carefully orchestrating evil so that you kill as many infidels as you can while getting yourself nicely killed by the infidels' mates, making sure you got one more "Allah Wakbar" out before you die.
Then Allah will finally love you, after a lifetime of hoping like crazy he won't decide to send you off to burn in hell, by doing prayer rituals, banging your head on the ground each time to get a "mark", eating Halal, avoiding friendships with Christians and jews, and crying, begging and pleading with him.
The thing about Jihadis, is they see themselves as soldiers of Allah and as soldiers their object is to kill as many infidels as possible. They can't do that if they off themselves after a mission. This is why such a assertion is a no go from the outset.
hello. The latest about the murderer of Toulouse. He had links with spanish salafist circles. I’ve just translated the stuff from http://elconfidencialdigital.com/seguridad/073416/lobos-solitarios-como-mohamed-merah-asistieron-a-la-cumbre-salafista-de-tarragona-el-cni-sospecha-que-los-terroristas-acordaron-actuar-en-varios-paises-incluido-espana
KILLING OF TOULOUSE
“Lone wolves” like Mohamed Merah attended the Salafist summit in Tarragona: the CNI suspects that terrorist attacks were planned in several countries, including Spain
Spanish intelligence services suspect that the salafist meeting held in Tarragona in 2011, which was attended by the murderer of Toulouse, was attended by more “lone wolves”. There are security alert for the possible existence of similar plans in other countries, including Spain.
The killings committed by Mohamed Merah, the murderer of Toulouse fit, according to analysts consulted by the ECD, to the terrorist pattern of “Lone Wolf”, a concept that experts define as acting independently, choosing he himself his objectives and carrying out the attack without aid.
This type of modus operandi makes it extremely difficult to detect in advance any plan and abort it.
The gunman from Sarajevo
The Toulouse attacks have put in alert the special security forces in Europe, which have had for months been analyzing warnings of possible similar actions across the continent since the case of the so-called ‘gunman’ in Sarajevo.
Now, according to informations coming from intelligence services, it is suspected that there might be more Salafist groups preparing similar attacks to those that occurred in France these days, that is, attacks carried out by lone individuals.
And Spain could not be spared from these plans, so special warnings have been raised.
According to this information, the intensification of actions by ‘lone wolves’ could have emerged from the meeting of some radical elements in Catalonia in 2011.
Tarragona, 2011
The ECD informed on wednesday that a group of agents from the CNCA and the Special Central Unit of the Guardia Civil conducted a follow-up operation and identification in Tarragona, in April 2011.
Several suspected members of jihadist circles with violent motivations belonging to the group Salafia Jihadia met there, simulating to belong to cultural associations.
As part of that, according to the intelligence sources, “legal” conference, there were some more confidential encounters among Salafists. Among these there was a young French national of Algerian origin, not filed by the Spanish security services. He was identified as Mohamed Merah, and a warning was sent to France.
Spain sent a dossier on Merah about his participation in these meetings to the General Directorate of External Security (DGSE), an organization equivalent to the CNI. The information was added to the french records of Merah, who had for years been filed because of maintaining links with radical islamic circles in Southern France, and making some trips to Afghanistan and Pakistan, where it is assumed he could receive military training.
That warning from the Guardia Civil did put Merah’s name in the list of suspects handled by the french police, which eventually led them to the murderer’s home in Toulouse.
The spanish ideologue released
Moreover, last January was reported the release of Mustafa Setmarian in Syria, who has spanish passport and is married to a spanish woman. Setmarian is considered one of the most influential figures of Al Qaeda.
The Syrian is author of “The Call to Global Islamic Resistance ‘, which sets out the main bases to continue to carry out “lone wolf”-like attacks. However, consulted sources rule Setmarian out of having any connection with the recent attacks.
So how/why would the French let this character into their country in the first place??
Enjoy those raisins buddy.
Allahu ackbar!
I suppose that the Reconquista has been successfully reversed?
@goethechosemercy--
Truer than we knew, if Hermes source is right, and I don't doubt it.
OTOH, Marie LePen...

@one of the nameless anons, who asked:
So how/why would the French let this character into their country in the first place??
Please read up on the French & their history in Algeria. Then fast-forward to the French citizens of Algerian stock who decided to take their chances in a country that looks down on them than rot or get shot in the home country.
IOW, this boy is a born-and-bred French citizen of a lower status and ppl will be talking about "root causes" for his behavior. The kind of causation chain that leaves his free will and agency out of the loop.
Funny how that works.
Seriously, though, read some history. Please. Here's a good place to start. You may not agree with all of it, but at least it goes back far enough and isn't reductionist:
Algerian immigration in France, a source of problems? Reflections on the responsibility of the State
That short essay is from 1999. It doesn't deal with the problems of Islamic immigration, esp since it wasn't on anyone's radar much back then. Still, the report has that plus ça change feel to it.
France isn't unique in its nativist disdain for immigrants, though the French do have an especially unattractive sneer. It is a trait I'm willing to ignore (a)because I don't have to experience it; and (b) they have food to die for.
I remember well the deep anxiety of a friend in Quebec, considered to have faultless French, who knew he would be disdained when he went to the Sorbonne.
They want to talk about root causes.
They term they use to refer to him is: "Islamist".
Take away the suffix.
Look at the root.
Islam.
Dymphna:The reversed reconquista is in full swing, but seemingly few take notice of it. There are more that 800 mosques in Spain and growing. Last day I heard that in the Catalan city of Badalona the local government granted the muslim community to use children's public playing grounds to pray, so if time comes for that, kids must go home and leave the place for the muslims. We also have the case of the mass killing of dogs in Lerida and other cities by muslims who call dogs impure animals. Near to where I live now in Madrid there's a grocery called "Al-andalus" and a muslim hair saloon one next to the other. I see hijabs every day. It is somewhat like Oslo, but less known.
Leftist movements are highly on the rise, displaying flags of the pre-Franco hypercommunist government. I always watch Intereconomia TV, the only channel worth seeing which dares to talk more or less openly about islamization and multiculturalism, and what they sometimes talk about makes one feel a bit uncertain about this country's future.
UNBELIEVABLE!!! French Teacher Urges Class For Minute Of Silence For Terrorist Who She Calls A ‘Victim’: http://www.theyeshivaworld.com/news/General+News/122457/French-Teacher-Urges-Class-For-Minute-Of-Silence-For-Terrorist-Who-She-Calls-A-Victim.html
I don't know about a minutes silence, there should have been dancing in the streets and handing out confectionary to the children. Isn't that what muslims are taught to do?
On the bright side, this is the longest period in history that the French Government have held out without surrendering to someone...
"French Teacher Urges Class For Minute Of Silence For Terrorist Who She Calls A ‘Victim’".
Not unbelievable at all. She's a teacher, she's French, two reasons to believe she's a leftist. Leftists have made an Unholy Alliance with a fellow totalitarianism, Islam to destroy western societies from within. Naturally she mourns a fallen ally and clearly the French school system allows her to indoctrinate her little charges in sympathy toward this killer of (Jewish) children. Only the West produces such masochistic suicidal haters of one's own culture and lets them dominate the education of their children.
