The Last Bastion of Traditional European Culture: Islam

Islam-skeptical parties in Europe are often said to resemble Jobbik, the extreme nationalist and anti-Zionist party in Hungary. The following video makes it clear that the comparison is utterly spurious.

Vona Gábor, the leader of the Hungarian anti-Zionist extreme nationalist party Jobbik, maintains that Islam is the last bastion of traditional culture. Therefore he believes its role is essential to ensure the survival of the world, and that Christianity should reconsider its position towards Islam.

Many thanks to Hermes for the translation, and to Vlad Tepes for the subtitling:

A full transcript is below the jump:

01:11 (reporter)You write in the book that the condition
01:14 for the survival of the world is the persistence
01:17 of the traditional culture, and the last
01:19 bastion of the traditional culture is Islam.
01:22 And then the commentator pondered that
01:25 this comes from the pen of a party chairman
01:28 who puts up double crosses at Christmas —
01:31 this sounds rather strange...
01:33 (Vona Gábor) It sounds strange, but if
01:35 the person who wrote this critique
01:37 had read the whole book, or if
01:39 he had not picked these thoughts
01:41 out of context, then he would have
01:43 understood, if he had an average
01:45 intelligence, and I hope, however,
01:46 that he has it, or perhaps that day
01:48 he got up on the wrong side of
01:50 the bed. (rep.) He did not read it in the article,
01:53 because he wrote in...
01:55 (V.G.) Well, that’s very bad... very bad... (rep.) the hyperlink, he clicked on, and
01:58 (rep.) I had a look at that article,
02:00 there’s a bit more there. (V.G.) then if somebody refers to
02:02 a book, then let him not pick the
02:04 information from an article, but
02:06 let him read the book, I certainly
02:08 wrote that it would be practical
02:10 for both the European and the
02:12 Christian culture, and also for
02:14 Hungary to think again regarding
02:16 their relationship with Islam, because
02:18 I think that on grounds of religion
02:21 it should not be allowed to create
02:23 conflicts between religions, and
02:25 it is also not good if one judges
02:27 the Islamic world by taking into
02:29 consideration the Turks in Germany
02:31 or the Muslims in western Europe,
02:33 it could be compared with Hungary
02:35 being judged on the basis of the
02:37 crimes of gypsies in Zámoly at that time.
02:41 (rep.) But there’s no big problem with
02:43 the Turks in Germany, and...
02:44 (V.G.) Yes, there are problems in Germany...
02:47 (rep.) Yes, I understand, but they are not
02:49 terrorists, compared to those who...
02:51 you write that violence is not good,
02:54 (rep.) I read it in that article... (V.G.) Thanks
02:56 (rep.) but I want to say that those who
02:59 give Islam a bad image, those are
02:02 the terrorists, and those are not the
02:05 Turks, the Turks in Germany, they are...
02:08 (V.G.) We could talk about this issue,
02:10 but now it’s about the Jobbik’s one-year
02:13 term in parliament that... (rep.) all right, all right...

Traitor.
His knowledge of history is as deep as a raindrop that just hit the ground.
Lord Jesus Christ, Son of God, have mercy on me, a sinner.
Islam is oriental.
Islam is profane.
This "Hungarian" is more anti-Zionist than pro-Western.
He must be called out as such.
He must be humiliated.

The thinking that the last bastion of European traditional culture is Islam, is not exclusive to Vona Gabor's politics, drill down into British conservative thinking and there you will find the same affinity - conservative = tradition = islam. Indeed with this formula the Gorgeous George victory in Bradford West could be calculated as a victory for British conservatism. What say you Baroness Warsi?

Poor Hungary. They were occupied by the Turks for too long.

Um, the guy said the quote was taking out of context and if the person read the book he would've understood.

Since he wrote the book, I would have a tendency to believe the author over some leftest douchebag.
