Gates of Vienna News Feed 4/8/2011

Gates of Vienna News Feed 4/8/2011Protests flared up again today in Syria. Thousands of people gathered after Friday prayers in Deraa to demonstrate against the government, and responded to tear gas by throwing stones at police. Ten people were killed, allegedly by supporters of the regime who infiltrated the protesters. The mob set the Ba’ath party offices on fire, and destroyed a statue of Bashar al-Assad’s brother.

In a new twist, Kurds in northeastern Syria also demonstrated, demanding more autonomy.

In other news, the U.S. general who was the original commander of NATO operations in Libya says that it may become necessary to insert American ground troops into the war. The rebels accuse NATO of not being zealous enough in their attacks on Col. Keddafi’s forces.

Hey, yeah, that's a great idea.

Let's put boots on the ground in a third middle east country.

If we try really hard, we can bring sharia to the entire world... at the muzzle of American guns...

WAKE UP AMERICA!!!

Resist.

From the "Cesium Deception" news item:

Even if the FDA could magically test all the food being imported from Japan, what allowable level of radiation would the FDA claim was "safe" in those foods anyway? Remember, this is the agency that has long supported the mass irradiation of the U.S. food supply as a way to kill e.coli and salmonella.

For all we know, FDA bureaucrats equate radiation with safety and might actually declare radioactive seafood from Japan to be safer than non-radioactive food because, they would say, the radiation "kills salmonella."

I stopped reading after those two paragraphs, as they were proof the individual writing that article is an idiot.

The amount of caesium washing into the ocean is minuscule compared to the amount of naturally occurring uranium and other radionuclides already present. Caesium is water soluble and will quickly dissipate to immeasurable levels. There's no threat. Simple as.
