A British tourist in Dubai was arrested for swearing, and while he was in custody he was beaten to death by police. The British consulate heard about his arrest, and sent someone to the jail to talk to him, but officials would not allow them to see him, saying the prisoner did not want any assistance.
In other news, the Wall Street Journal reports that Iran has secretly has sent members of its security services to Syria help put down the current unrest. Iran is also reportedly planning to assist the Shi’ite protesters in Bahrain and Yemen.
