Horst Seehofer, the head of the Bavarian CSU party — a subsidiary of the CDU (Christian Democrats), led by Angela Merkel — got himself in trouble by saying that Germany has no business importing more people who don’t assimilate well. Chancellor Merkel has just met with Prime Minister Recep Tayyip Erdogan, and, needless to say, Mr. Erdogan was unhappy with Mr. Seehofer’s remarks. Turkey has demanded an apology.
Mr. Seehofer has now backpedaled a bit, saying that he was only referring to the need to exhaust Germany’s skilled labor resources before importing more immigrants. The Chancellor has backed him — we’ll see if this is enough to placate Prime Minister Erdogan.
In other news, after six more of its troops were killed, Italy is considering pulling its forces out of Afghanistan next year.

On Thursday, the Crowne Plaza hotel cancelled a conference, (...) The speaker was to be Oskar Freysinger of the Swiss People’s Party, billed in an online invitation for the conference as “the man who stopped construction of the minarets in Switzerland.”
Me thinks it must have been canceled because the fearless and heroic Mr. Freysinger was to speak at it. Its fate would have been the same had Geert Wilders, Elisabeth Sabaditsch-Wolff, Pia Kjaersgaard, Filip Dewinter or any other such heroes of the counter-jihad been invited as well.
