Doesn't sound much different from US practice. Eggs are effectively sold by weight in the US, since the price for a dozen jumbo eggs is significantly higher than for standard eggs. Could you really buy eggs by count (ignoring weight) in Europe? A package that said "250g eggs" without telling you how many eggs were in it would be so stupid I predict EU packages will have both weight and count on them. As far as I know raw fruits and vegetables have always been sold by weight in the US. What with Greece going down the tubes you'd think the EU mandarins would have better things to do than demand that eggs be sold by weight.
