A U.S. army soldier who allegedly opened fire at a military base in Texas, killing 12 people, was reportedly still alive Thursday evening.
Initial reports said that the gunman had been shot dead by officials earlier in the day. But on Thursday evening, Lt.-Gen. Bob Cone said that the suspected gunmen was in fact alive and in hospital.
“He is currently in custody and in stable condition,” said Cone, speaking at the military base in Fort Hood, Texas.
“He is hospitalized, and I’ve had no personal background with him that I can speak of.”
The armed suspect has been identified as Maj. Nidal Malik Hasan, aged 39.
USA Today is reporting the same thing.
The AP has an interesting report about the Maj. Hasan’s alleged jihad proclivities:

WASHINGTON — The Army psychiatrist suspected of carrying a shooting rampage at Fort Hood, Texas, had come to the attention of authorities six months ago because of Internet postings that discussed suicide bombings and other threats, law enforcement officials said Thursday.
The postings appeared to have been made by Maj. Nidal Malik Hasan, who was killed during the shootings at the Army post that left least 11 others dead and 31 wounded. The officials say they are still trying to confirm that he was the author. They said an official investigation was not opened.
The officials spoke on condition of anonymity because they were not authorized to discuss the case.
One of the Web postings that authorities reviewed is a blog that equates suicide bombers with a soldier throwing himself on a grenade to save the lives of his comrades.
“To say that this soldier committed suicide is inappropriate. Its (sic) more appropriate to say he is a brave hero that sacrificed his life for a more noble cause,” said the Internet posting. “Scholars have paralled (sic) this to suicide bombers whose intention, by sacrificing their lives, is to help save Muslims by killing enemy soldiers.”
Now I see why CAIR rushed to put out a press release and called a news conference. This story is getting very interesting.

Quotes from an AP article:
Hasan was a lifelong Muslim and attended prayers regularly, often in his Army uniform, Khan said.
... At least six months ago, Hasan came to the attention of law enforcement officials because of Internet postings about suicide bombings and other threats, including posts that equated suicide bombers to soldiers who throw themselves on a grenade to save the lives of their comrades.
They had not determined for certain whether Hasan is the author of the posting, and a formal investigation had not been opened before the shooting, said law enforcement officials who spoke on condition of anonymity because they are not authorized to discuss the case. [emphasis added]
Perish the thought that ANY-EFFING-ONE will term this as a Terrorist Attack much less one of Islamic origin.
This suspect should have been detected and weeded out by the U.S. Military, a long time ago, just by looking at news reports of his profile less than 24 hours after the atrocity.
Too many good people lost.
Yet another example that Muslims are ticking time bombs who can go off at any time over any reason after decades of living in the west and even seemingly participating in its institutions.
That is the powerful nature of their Islamic programing.
There is no fool proof way of weeding the potential killers out.
Therefore Muslims need to be separated from non-Muslims. Let the good Muslims live with their crazy uncle Abdullah and risk their own lives rather than ours. If the good Muslims vastly outnumber the supposedly small number of jihadis the way we are constantly being reassured, then Muslims should have no problem controlling their crazies.
In fact, they should have done it by now in token of their sincerity about being good citizens of the West. They have not, and that speaks volumes.
One would think that the first duty of being privileged with citizenship in a western country is at least being embarrassed when your co-religionists repeatedly blow up citizens of that country, mostly civilians and redoubling your efforts to make it up to the people who let you in. Instead, Muslims go on the offense and complain about Islamophobia, which even if it existed is hardly comparable to murder.
"Let's not talk about my fellow Muslims killing your women and children. Let's talk about what I imagine to be your looking at my wife in a burka in a less than welcoming manner. Now you're smiling at her. Do not gaze upon my property you infidel dog!"
Tragic as this is, it is peanuts compared to what will happen if Islam becomes dominant in the any country in the West.
We must continue our intervention in Afghanistan and Iraq.
As I've posted before, there is just one way to attain peace at home, i.e., separation from Muslims. The only question is how?
We must take liberal democracy to more Muslim countries, one by one - freedom for women, gays and religious minorities. Who can oppose such a noble aim?
Support our effort to bring freedom to Islamic nations. It is the one hope we have at the moment.
The Washington Post reports that Hasan is "very devout":
Hasan attended the Muslim Community Center in Silver Spring and was “very devout,” according to Faizul Khan, a former imam at the center. Khan said Hasan attended prayers at least once a day, seven days a week, often in his Army fatigues.
Khan also said Hasan applied to an annual matrimonial seminar that matches Muslims looking for spouses. “I don’t think he ever had a match, because he had too many conditions,” Khan said.
From Fox News:
"“A former neighbor of Hasan’s in Silver Spring, Md. told Fox News he lived there for two years with his brother and had the word ‘Allah’ on the door.”
From NPR:
A source tells NPR’s Joseph Shapiro that Hasan was put on probation early in his postgraduate work at the Uniformed Service University of the Health Sciences in Bethesda, Md. He was disciplined for proselytizing about his Muslim faith with patients and colleagues, according to the source, who worked with him at the time.
Just a few thoughts on this whole incident.
1. It has now become painfully obvious how PC the Armed Forces have become. This guy was screaming 'I am a Jihadist' to anyone who would listen and was roundly ignored. Or they were too scared by the likes of CAIR to act.
2. The media trying to find "a motive" is making me physically ill.
3. Didnt a member of the Taliban do the same thing two days ago in a police station in Afghanistan? Inspiration? Connection?
4. I am glad this guy is still alive. The crap that is going to come out of his mouth for the next couple of years is going to be priceless. Maybe, maybe it will wake some people up as if this massacre wasnt enough.
5. Does the military still use firing squads?
As sad as it is but this is what you get when you are in a war where you can't even name the enemy and where your president called the enemy ideology a 'religion of peace'. Would a Nazi have been able to serve in the US Army during WWII?
As far as I am concerned, Hassan represents a very clear danger to society. The army needs to more tightly screen psychiatrists. /s
It goes without saying that if this bast@rd was a Christian, even a pretend one, the headlines would have bee "Rampaging Christian Fundamentalist..."
The B.B.C. is reportng that Hasan was a "devout muslim but not an extremist"
At the same time reporting that-
"according to eyewitnesses, the gunman had shouted the Arabic phrase "Allahu Akbar!" [God is great] before opening fire."
While the massacre of five British soldiers in Helmand province by an islamic terrorist posing as an Afghan policeman is reported as an "event".
Words fail me.
13 real human beings sacrificed on the altar of misdirected liberalism. How many more ?
4Symbols: The B.B.C. is reporting that Hasan was a "devout muslim but not an extremist".
There's a difference? I'm sure that media outlets will provide us with mental gymnastics of Olympic competition level quality as they go through the semantic contortions required to split the hair dividing "devout" Muslim and "extremist" Muslim.
We in the West have been repeatedly assured by some of the world's most influential Muslims that, "There is no moderate Islam". That fact alone makes a "devout" Muslim an immoderate one. I invite the media to once again split the hair that separates an "immoderate" Muslim and an "extremist" Muslim.
This is another pluperfect case of SJS (Sudden Jihad Syndrome) and, as usual, from the Oval Office, straight on down through the government, military, law enforcement and media, NO-EFFING-BODY can bring themselves to connect dots that have grown to the size of continents.
Jocke: 13 real human beings sacrificed on the altar of misdirected liberalism. How many more?.
Most disgusting of all is how it will likely require enough innocent deaths whereby enraged surviving relations of the deceased begin physical retaliation against those of any station who continue to willfully conceal and disguise the threat that Islam poses to our society and culture.
Far be it from me to advocate such lawlessness but you can take it to the bank that this prediction will come about if all involved continue to participate in this deadly and treasonous charade about Islam being The Religion of Peace. [spit]
My local newspaper made NOT ONE SINGLE MENTION OF HASAN'S RELIGION above or below the front page fold, nor IN THE ENTIRE MAIN ARTICLE about the Ft. Hood massacre. ONLY ON THE LAST INSIDE PAGE above the continued article was there a separate story about Hasan's background that merely made PASSING REFERENCE to his being a Muslim.
This farce has long passed its “Best By” date. Like any nutrient that is allowed to rot, it has become toxic and diseased. This poison is being drip fed into our society so, like the proverbial frog in the pot, its slow attrition will not be noticed until it is too late.
We need to make it “too late” for all of the scum participating in this mass betrayal of Western culture and its traditions of liberty and freedom. Out of office, out of a job or run out of town on a rail, all of these traitors need the heave ho.
The liberals quest for universal toleration has met reality. The US has had the luxury of being far enough removed from the nexus of conflict in Europe and the Middle East to have lofty philosophical ideals of acceptance and integration of individuals in our armed forces not at all loyal to the government. Some hard questions need to be asked about our recruitment policies and scrutiny of individuals enlisting in the military.
Hi people!
You just may want to know how it was reported here:
Another american shooting, this time in a military base in Texas. 12 (or 13?) people killed, some injuried.
The men is reported to have been continuosly annoyed for his Palestinian ancestry.
Zenster: "Most disgusting of all is how it will likely require enough innocent deaths whereby enraged surviving relations of the deceased begin physical retaliation against those of any station who continue to willfully conceal and disguise the threat that Islam poses to our society and culture."
Yes, that ought to be a law of nature. But what I think is more important is that the views and descriptions the collaborators are feeding us with are getting more and more distant from the reality we live in. The distortions are getting more and more obvious in the eyes of the public and the public is turning away from the traitors in disgust.
