Not only are neo-Nazis in Brazil numerous, but they receive open public support from the Brazilian government for their nefarious activities. Indisputable evidence of this trend can be seen in the photo below, which shows neo-fascist army recruits sieg-heiling the Brazilian flag:

Rocha includes the context for this disturbing image:
When you turn eighteen in Brazil you need to register for the armed forces. Whether they draft you or not is up to them
You can say you are a homosexual (and get a red stamp on your army papers saying so) or that you are a pacifist (ten years without civil benefits) to avoid it.
If you do not use these arguments, you register with the armed forces and then take the oath to the flag before being liberated (or not).
Yes, this is satire. See this comment for a helpful explanation.

Nowadays almost noone who dosen't want to enter the armed forces are forced to, but these were the options i was told while in high school. You could prove a serious diesise too.
I'm one of the few lucky souls who didn't do the oath to the flag. =]
I and a few others were forgotten in the call and when they did call us with almost noone there they did just the essencial. When asked why we would not do the oath the captain (showing our way out) just said in typical brazilian humour that the oath was a fag thing.
So i didn't do the fag thing.
The story has a beautiful whiff of lazy day in the Caribbean sun to it, Rocha. And while I'm not a fan of the "manyana" method of public service normally, in this instance it's hilarious.
Rocha, good post.
Don't the best elite squad forces in Brazil still do the Roman salute to the flag and the corporation?
They do it without the "fascist" meaning.
And, the mass media here portraited the would-be "perfect" or "governor" of Manaus/Amazonas as "a member of the Brazilian far right".
What's up? Do you know?
Andy Warhol should have said "In the future, everyone will be Hitler for 15 minutes." That is the logical outcome of defining Nazism down as intolerance.
D. Cluetrain,
The armed forces are way more serious than "normal" public service but civil service is civil service.
Afonso,
I don't know when if they do it. But i believe the oath to the flag is repeated a few times in civic days. Amazonas is far off i do know very few of it. But Pará governess is from the far left, she don't permit invaded land to be desocupied by the police, and retreated police from probematic areas. The south of the state now is a chaos of landlords defending thenselves, communist MST invading productive land and criminals destroying farms after they rob them. Sometimes the last two even help each other in it. So the dream of the left of creating a communist insurection in Brazil in the 60's and the 70's; dream defeated at araguaia; is now a real possibility.
Baron,
Be careful! There are news now of a new axis! formed of brazilian and portuguese military after a takeover by fascists! They are even talking with China right know!

Felix, you should have read what your countryman Rocha said in the comment just before yours:
This post is a joke.
It's a pity you didn't get it.
This has no connection with Nazism! This is a position of the flag oath that several countries have this greeting! and the government of the Federative Republic of Brazil in the code prohibits any civil salute the flag of Nazi position! is written in our civil code! this position is only done once to take an oath to the flag as it is done so in many countries ... Brazil has only one concern that is communism, our presidents are communists and our government has only liberal anarchists carrying this picture is a fraud for having arguments out of your true origin! NAZISM OUT!OUT COMMUNISM! AND OUT The Anarchist LIBERALISM!

I'll repeat to you what I said above to Felix:
