That video was in 2006, when President Bush was in office and Nancy P was visiting her constituents in San Francisco. Back then, ol’ Nancy liked “disruptors”.
Now she wishes they’d quit acting so un-American:
We believe it is healthy for such a historic effort to be subject to so much scrutiny and debate. The failure of past attempts is a reminder that health insurance reform is a defining moment in our nation’s history - it is well worth the time it takes to get it right. We are confident that we will get this right. [my emphasis - D]
Yeah, she really said that: “a defining moment in our nation’s history”. This is a trivial, trifling woman.
Already, three House committees have passed this critical legislation and over August, the two of us will work closely with those three committees to produce one strong piece of legislation that the House will approve in September.
First of all, by the time their constituents are through with them, it is not a done deal in September. That’s why they tried to rush it through before the recess. However, enough constituents were hopping mad about the Cap ’n’ Tax treason, and many Congressmen knew they’d better not go home if they signed on to another back-breaking boondoggle.
- - - - - - - - -
So these three committees have assembled a mishmash called “House Resolution 3200”. The subtitle reads, most intriguingly, To provide affordable, quality health care for all Americans and reduce the growth in health care spending, and for other purposes. Those “other purposes” are nefarious you may be sure, because this thing is a yawning 1,017 pages long, with the nefarious nuggets buried so that if you have a job or family needing your attention, you will be hard put to slog through the sludge of HR 3200 to find the earmarks. We know they’re in the bill, but it’s our lookout if they manage to sneak them past us.
By the way, this is in a pdf file. For some reason, bureaucracies like pdf files. Does anyone know why?
An enterprising fellow put on his wading boots and schlepped through the whole thing. Now “the whole thing” is a swamp of bureaucratic language, so it’s fun to have the opposite lexicon operating here: his warnings are all collected in Tweetese, put out as he found them and then assembled here.
It boggles the mind considering the possibilities of our politician’s bloviations being reduced to Tweets. It makes the soul sing … and I like language. But Tweets are preferable to Bureaucratese.
By the way, as you scroll through his blog, you can find all the videos where Obie & Co. say the real plan is a single-payer system, with the small (read “innovative”) insurance companies being lined up against the wall first. If only the government would step out of the way, we could have a healthy, innovative system instead of the socialist dreck that has been tried and found wanting in so many other places. But Obie is a machine politician. They don’t do original thinking and they are decidedly anti-business.
Here’s the Speaker again:
In the meantime, as members of Congress spend time at home during August, they are talking with their constituents about reform. The dialogue between elected representatives and constituents is at the heart of our democracy and plays an integral role in assuring that the legislation we write reflects the genuine needs and concerns of the people we represent.
However, it is now evident that an ugly campaign is underway not merely to misrepresent the health insurance reform legislation, but to disrupt public meetings and prevent members of Congress and constituents from conducting a civil dialogue. These tactics have included hanging in effigy one Democratic member of Congress in Maryland and protesters holding a sign displaying a tombstone with the name of another congressman in Texas, where protesters also shouted “Just say no!” drowning out those who wanted to hold a substantive discussion.
Awww…no fair. It was okay to disrupt and drown out the opposition when the disrupters agreed with her. Somehow, though, this group of naysayers are un-American:
These disruptions are occurring because opponents are afraid not just of differing views - but of the facts themselves. Drowning out opposing views is simply un-American. Drowning out the facts is how we failed at this task for decades.
Actually, no. The Clinton national health care plan died because it deserved to do so. This one does, too.
Health care is complex. It touches every American life. It drives our economy. People must be allowed to learn the facts.
People are permitted to learn the “facts” of H.R. 3200 after Nancy and her pals pass the darn thing. Until then, shut up and sit down.

Comrade Nancy says:

Don’t bet your vineyards on it, sweetie. Come to think of it, if you want to make a little wager, Madam, meet me out back with your betting slip. I have a kid who could use your vineyards.

PDFs are a little more functional than a standard website (not to mention a .doc file) - you can search easier, normally have a table of contents, skim pages ahead, etc.
And fully downloadable.
Today I was reading of a recent Town Hall meeting where Obama lets so called "ordinary people" tell their story (to push his totalcare), where he let a Portsmouth resident, Lori Hitchcock", tell her story, who had been "uninsured for 2 years" and "however at $750/mo and a $500 deductible Lori is unable to afford this coverage."
But this Lori B. Hitchcock was owner of Hitchcock Technology, is President of Hitchcock Staffing, and Hitchcock Contemporary Staffing; Member of the Board of trustees of Community Technical College System, Member of the Board of Ecoast Technology Roundtable Board of Directors, Member of the Society for Human Resource Management, and of the Seacoast Human Resource Association. She serves on the Portsmouth Chamber of Commerce Business, and once a Real Estate Broker. This year she had been placed by the Governor as nominee for reappointment (for the term until 2013) to the Boards and Commissions by the Governor and Executive Council for the Community College System of New Hampshire (Business and Industry).
And not only that, she was in the Steering Committee of the Kerry-Edwards Campaign, together with Ron Ulrich, owner of MedOne Health Care...
Am I wrong, or is there something wrong here.
Wow, some of those are truly scary. Guess Canada should enact reforms of it's own...to attract all the companies that will flee!
There is something seriously wrong in American politics to end up with 3 such unmitigated losers at the top of the heap, Obeyme, Biden-his-time and Pelousy. They are an utter disgrace.
Wm. Buckley was right when he said he'd rather be governed by the first hundred names in the Boston phone directory. They could not possibly do worse than what's in Congress now. Career politicians stink to high heaven.
