Confrontation in Birmingham

Earlier today a violent confrontation broke out between anti-jihad groups and “anti-fascists” in the city center of Birmingham in the English Midlands. At least thirty-three people were arrested, and based on the photos in The Daily Mail, there were also some injuries.

Two anti-jihad groups known as Casuals United and the English Defence League were involved. Both of them are said to draw their strength from existing groups of football supporters.

The EDL has been at pains to repudiate any association with the BNP, and declares a strong support for Israel, but that hasn’t stopped the “anti-fascists” from conflating it with the BNP and neo-Nazis.

Here’s the news video from the BBC:

And a report from the Sunday Mercury:

Below is the text of the BBC news report:

Arrests at anti-Islamic protest

Police in Birmingham have arrested 33 people during protests by anti-fascists and a group demonstrating against Islamic fundamentalism.

One protest involved two groups known as Casuals United and the English Defence League, which police said were made up of local football fans.

Another counter-protest in the city centre was organised by Unite Against Fascism, West Midlands Police said.

Two people were injured in the disturbances which began at 1800 BST.

Police said there were “sporadic incidents of disturbance in the city centre” with the majority of the arrests being for disorder.

There was one report of criminal damage to a vehicle, but more were expected. No police officers were hurt.

‘Burning flag’

Resident Gary Nichols witnessed the disturbances from his city centre flat and said he was unable to go outside for about two and a half hours.

“It was very disheartening to see,” he told the BBC.

“I’ve never experienced anything like it before in the three years I’ve lived here.

“It started off with a group of white guys who were chanting ‘England, England’. I thought they were just football fans, but then a larger group of black and Asian people turned up and it all kicked off.

“You had people burning the Union flag. People were being kicked — some of them weren’t anything to do with the protests.

“It all seemed to be very systematic — groups were arriving in cars and getting involved in the violence.

“It really wasn’t nice to see and I hope I never see it again.”

Speaking before Saturday’s demonstrations, on the West Midlands Police website, Superintendent Matt Ward said there had been a similar protest against Islamic fundamentalism last month, involving 70 to 90 people.

He said July’s protest had been “vocal” but peaceful.

Asked about the latest demonstrations, Supt Ward said the police wanted to balance the rights of protesters with retailers and shoppers who wanted to use the city centre for their normal business.

I hope to have a more detailed report tomorrow as word trickles in from my UK contacts.

The EDL certainly looks like the kind of non-racist and pro-Israel anti-Islamist group which GoV should be supporting.

All the photos of this event seem to show the same thing - groups of black and brown people attacking white people

Wonder on what criteria the "anti-racists" based their attacks on innocent bystanders that were not part of the protest?

British enrichers burning the Union flag now there is an irony.

It's good to see these sort of manifestations, quite as the one in Luton. These football supporters are among the bravest among us, and what they do is very essential. It's good to have private "police" such as Atraks patrolling ones residential area. But if we leave the control of the public streets, and our society's infrastructure, to the Jihadists and the leftists (the seem to be the very same in these clips), we will be left living in isolated islands. The EDL is doing a fine job bringing the struggle to that arena.

Interestingly enough, virtually everything that day seemed to be about the BNP, even though they were not even there (no one from Nazi-Germany was present either but still a lot of talk about "Nazis"). "BNP" is obviously the worst smear, next to "Nazi" in Britain these days.

It's sad to see though how these brave football supporters feel forced to denounce BNP. Since they are on the same side. It's so very easy for the leftists (or should I say the Leftist/Jihad conglomerate?) to instill fear in us by raising the Nazi specter. They can split up our resistance into tiny pieces, denouncing each other, by just a simple gesture. Thus we see Geert Wilders' party fearing to cooperate within any group in the European Parliament. While Vlaams Belang is being frozen out of the group. And all remember the Charles Johnson bruhaha (wait he's not a leftist, or is he?). Etc, etc, etc.

In Gandalf's article, linked by DP111 above, it says from the UAF site:
Unite Against Fascism supporters in the West Midlands will be joining the local Muslim community in Birmingham city centre on Saturday 8 August to protest against an "anti-Muslim demonstration" planned that day by right-wing thugs linked to the fascist BNP and promoted on openly Nazi internet sites such as Stormfront.

Any leftist can take the message from the EDL site and put it on Stormfront. And then this is considered conclusive proof, in the media theater and beyond, that EDL are Nazis.

That's how easy the Leftists/Jihadists have it. While we are shivering, shattering into pieces, isolating us from each other, caused this simple magic. Hell, we even have this from the inside, such as Charles Johnson. And in a recent Lawrence Auster post it was suggested that I was on the path towards Nazism(!) (see my latest blog post).

It is clear that we are not gonna come anywhere, there's not going to be any turnaround what so ever, until the day that we have freed ourselves from the magic of the Nazi accusation.

I encourage everyone to spend a few minutes pondering upon how they think that could happen.

I'm not sure but wasn't there a black guy among the EDL crowd? He was standing holding a placard with the Cross of St George. The EDL placards clearly stated "Black and White Unite". So how can they be racists or Nazis?

Conservative Swede,

We agree entirely. I cannot see how anyone could come to any other conclusion. Unfortunately, reality matters so little, to-day.

H. B. Palmaer,

Warm thanks for your support. I'm regularly following the good blog of yours and Florestan, so therefore I can see why we agree here. We agree about a lot!

Btw, I read your answer to me about Catholicism in your blog some time ago. I didn't have time to answer it back then though. It was a good answer, excellent in some ways. Of course I still have things to add to that, but that would have to be for another time.

Good luck and success!
