According to WPXI, an eighty-five year old great-grandmother in Lake Lynn Pennsylvania showed two punks the business end of her .22 when they broke into her house at night. As a result, the boys are resting in the comfort of the local hoosegow.
According to police, a 17-year-old suspect was attempting to burglarize Leda Smith overnight. That’s when Smith grabbed her gun and told the teen that she would shoot him if he moved, police said.
“I had the gun on him before he turned around and said, ‘you’ve had it,’ “ Smith told Channel 11-News.
According to police, Smith ordered the boy to dial 911 and then gave him some advice. “Dial 911 and don’t attempt to throw the phone at me, or do anything bad or I’ll just shoot you,” Smith said.
When police arrived, they took the teen into custody.
Charges have been filed against the boy and an alleged accomplice.
Can you imagine what kind of torture those boys are going through at the hands of their peers? I mean, how cool is it to be outsmarted by a great-grandma, and she’s got the gun?

This story reminds me of one of the ladies who attended our church. She raised five children after her husband died; the sweetest great-grandma you’d ever want to meet. Eva had a large garden and canned everything in order to feed her brood. She also had chickens and a few cows (she sold milk and butter and eggs).
Building fences to keep out the rabbits and deer from her garden wasn’t an option. Fences cost money. However, what she could do was sit on her porch at night and take pot shots at the “durn critters”, as she called them. Foxes learned to avoid her hen house, too.
Eva was one of those people who knew how to survive with grace. I never saw her without a smile on her face and I never heard her speak badly of anyone. When she died at the age of 93, still sharp as a tack, the whole community mourned her going.
But I can well imagine what she’d have done if these two creeps had shown up in her house - it might not have been so clean and neat as this story. More likely than not, they’d be resting at the hospital rather than in jail.
Fortunately for all of us, the critters who broke into Grandma Smith’s are being charged with a felony and Grandma Smith is being lauded for doing the right thing.
Thank heavens she doesn’t live in Europe.

Amen.
Cockles warming.
We had a somewhat similar incident in Denmark a couple years ago. A watchmaker Woolhead shot several (Serbian) robbers in his store.
He was taken to court for two charges:
- Undue violence against the intruders.
- Lack of licenses for his firearms.
He was *aquitted* of the first charge. Since he didn't have the proper paperwork for his several guns, he was found guilty on the second, though.
So, even though he went to jail, it was not for the shootings as such. We do have a certain (limited) right to self-defense.
"Thank heavens she doesn’t live in Europe."
Actually here, in the North of the country, a 59 years old woman pushed two burglairs out of her balcony in the 2nd floor.
The men survived but the police "does not recommend such behaviours". However, no charges were presented against the woman.
We're not that bad yet...
What if she had shot them in europe?
One person is doing life for not letting people burgle his place in peace. I'm sure there are more.
Remember the criminals have more rights than you!
Of course the police don't "recommend such behaviours." The very idea of the right to self-defence is being eroded, because it is one of the most fundamental. The idea that you should stand up for yourself or for your friends/loved ones is an idea that independent-minded people who don't NEED nanny/teacher to fight the battles for them have. You can't control a citizenry that thinks it is entitled to defend itself from ANY aggression. Why do you think, here in North America, we're constantly bombarded with "don't be a hero" messages, and our children are encouraged to tattle on instead of confront bullies in school?
