I told him I couldn’t bear to do it - being the kind of person who actively avoids looking at car accidents as we’re being waved through the scene by a policeman, I’m not fit for the task of reading about Jimmah, much less having to write about his corrupt self. It literally makes me queasy.
However, Wretchard is made of sterner stuff. I highly recommend his essay, which is full of links to original material…in addition to being done in his own inimitable style:
It’s hard to read Alan Dershowitz’s denunciation of former President Jimmy Carter without getting a sinking feeling. Dershowitz summarizes the huge sums which investigative journalists now say Jimmy Carter received from Arab and Islamic sources. And they are considerable. The Saudis bailed out his peanut farm in 1976. The infamous BCCI and Saudi billionaire Gaith Pharaon actually helped with the startup funding of the Carter Center. Carter himself is quoted fulsomely thanking Sheik Zayed bin Sultan al-Nahyan, the long time ruler of the UAE, for donating half a million dollars. From what is known Carter has received tens of millions of dollars from Arab and Islamic sources. And that, argues Dershowitz, is behind the former President’s tireless campaigning against Israel.[there are links on the original post which don't show here]
I am going to recommend you read the whole thing, though in all honesty I will admit that I couldn’t do it; instead I scrolled on down to the next post, trying to catch up on what I’d missed at The Belmont Club this week. As in the worst of Clinton’s shenanigans with the Chinese, I had to turn away from seeing any further into the grisly truth - a truth I can do nothing about. With quisling leaders like these what country needs enemies?
They’re right here among us and Jimmah is at the top of the list.

Part of Jimmy Carter's public descent into corrupt partisanship is no doubt senility combined with a corrupt inner circle of advisors.
But really, behind that toothy smile, Jimmy Carter has always been a corrupt politician. Is there any other kind? You cannot run for office without being beholden to the ones who pay the piper. The financial and political costs are enormous. Most politicians understand that, and make the devil's bargain.
If the public can't see the difference between ordinary corruption, and the kind of corruption that would sell its own mother into slavery, the public is doomed. Carter, Clinton, Pelosi, Reid--all fall into the latter category.
This latest info documents that Jimmy Carter has been bought and paid for by the Saudis and the emirates. It will be interesting to see how the Democrats treat him in the coming 2008 Presidential campaign. Do the Democratic candidates feel it necessary to distance themselves from him? What do they do with him at the convention? He is not going away and appears more confrontational than ever about pushing his anti-Israel bias.
The Sauds are politically very well liked and generous people. They donate vast sums of money on a non-partisan basis. Their charitable works include helping a Texan baseball team and a Arkansas lawyer's library and giving mortgage assistance for destitute peanut farmers. Generous to a fault.
I would like to see somebody do some investigating into how many politicians from both parties have been bought and paid for by the Saudis. I was pretty sickened by the photo several months ago showing President Bush literally holding hands with some Saudi. I have also been disappointed in Condoleeza Rice since she became Secretary of State, with all of her talk about supporting a Palestinian state.
If I wanted to let my imagination run wild, I could even believe that the Saudi Sunnis would just love to see someone [cough]U.S.[cough] put the smackdown on the Iranian Shi'as. That could probably be some fertile ground for conspiracy theorizing.
No, I'm not Bush-bashing. I voted for him in both 2000 and 2004 and don't regret it for a minute, given the alternatives in those elections.

Heh. Your comment appeared while I was previewing mine. Yours is better written and more succinct, though.
al fin--
Your comment reminded me that Miss Lillian, Jimmah's mother, once said she shouldn't have had any children. I guess she knew what she was talking about...
In all fairness....despite Jimma's despicable behaviour...the Carter Center's funded by a wide variety of people... Bill Gates to Paul Volker...corporations like Delta Airlines and Johnson and Johnson...it's a Who's Who of the rich. Among the foreign donors are the Arabs, as stated, but also the Japanese...lot's of folks been suckin' up to Jimma.
And he to them. The Saudis are among them....and in addition to Carter, don't forget Bush1 and James Baker, and The Carlyle Group...most of the rest of varied administrations... Those sheiks get around, boy do they.
Carter's animus extends to more than Jews...he's become a hateful Anti-American old man...the worst ex-President in history, and if he's been bought by the Saudis, he's one of a long list, and they paid dearly for him....when they didn't have to. He'd sell out for practically nothing.
Quote from Nobel Laureate Jimmy's book:
"It is imperative that the general Arab community and all significant Palestinian groups make it clear that they will end the suicide bombings and other acts of terrorism when international laws and the ultimate goals of the Roadmap for Peace are accepted by Israel."
How about that "when" clause? Jaw-dropping.
What amuses me is the reaction of his Jewish and Democrat friends and backers who have finally had enough. They realize now what a mendacious, backstabbing rat the sanctimonious ex-peanut farmer is. He will twist the truth and tell outright lies to advance the interests of his shady friends. How did they miss it up until now? It reminds me of nothing so much as Jimmy's famous whine that Brezhnev had "lied to me".
Another quote:
Kenneth Stein told nearly 1,000 people at Los Angeles' Sinai Temple Thursday night that his concerns grew out of what he called Carter's “gross inventions, intentional falsehoods and irresponsible remarks.”
Again, where has this man been for the last 30 years?
I'm curious: if the Saudis bailed out this idiot's peanut farm in 1976- the year he ran for president- shouldn't that have been investigated? It seems like a massive conflict of interest for a president. Maybe I missed it, but I don't know that I've ever heard this before.
Carter's bailout by the Saudis was not direct, and all aspects of it were investigated at one time or another. Saying he was bailed out by the Saudis compresses a lot of levels into one. Dr Rachel Ehrenfeld, who is an expert at tracking Saudi money, has the details here.
Jimmy Carter....Traitor..Bought and Paid for!
