Thanks to his efforts (and the others, whose links you can follow there, including a forum of photographers who have lots of experience to offer), Reuters has been forced to withdraw its photofib, while of course blaming the photographer. “Wasn’t us.”
Fortunately, Ynet captured the “apology” from al-Reuters:
A Reuters photograph of smoke rising from buildings in Beirut has been withdrawn after coming under attack by American web logs. The blogs accused Reuters of distorting the photograph to include more smoke and damage.
The photograph showed two very heavy plumes of black smoke billowing from buildings in Beirut after an Air Force attack on the Lebanese capital. Reuters has since withdrawn the photograph from its website, along [with] a message admitting that the image was distorted, and an apology to editors.
[…]
In the message, Reuters said that “photo editing software was improperly used on this image. A corrected version will immediately follow this advisory. We are sorry for any inconvience[sic].”
Yes, they really called it an “inconvenience” - or at least they meant to say that. Now there’s an MSM euphemism for you. “Getting caught” equals “inconvenience.” And fabricated stories are “fake but accurate.” And, above all, the ends justify the means. And just for your information, Word’s spell-check , when presented with inconvience offers you instead incontinence and unconvinced.
As is well known to Gates of Vienna readers, I loathe The New York Times and all its pimp-papers who copy their lies, treasonous revelations, and sanctimonious blathering. Not to mention having the worst “economist” on board. They actually pay him for his prognostications, most of which are wrong and wrong-headed. The old grey doxy puts the old Pravda to shame… maybe that’s where they learned their tricks?
I also loathe al-Reuters and its attempts to twist, manipulate and otherwise turn the “news” to their own devices. For your convenience, here is a clickable link to al-Reuters. If the spirit moves you, by all means send them a nastygram. Consider it your good deed for this fine summer Sunday.
Meanwhile, Ynet reminds us of the earlier “suspended” Reuters employee who was sending Charles Johnson several death threats from an IP address that belonged to - tah dah - Reuters. Well, I’ll be doggoned. One of Reuters’ employees thinks Mr. Johnson is a “Zionist pig”? Nah…just a misunderstanding.
Gosh, with all these Reuters employees hanging suspended in mid-air like that, it must be quite a place to work. Castles in the air? Is that the Reuters mission statement?
Ah, J-school. Where you learn to dissemble for a living.

Suspended the photoshopper ? - With a rope, I hope....
On Michelle Malkin, she gave the doctored picture the caption "Reutered". What say we give the verb "to reuter" a seat of honor alongside the verb "to fisk"?
Tomorrow Never Dies! (trackback on mine)
ATTENTION, FJORDMAN! (and others)
Read this genocidal Nazi propaganda, right from Norway's main paper, Aftenposten:

Ynet : "Adnan Hajj, the photographer who sent the altered image, was also the Reuters photographer behind many of the images from Qana"
Jeez Louise - why isn't that a surprise? Reuters posts the fake, but palms off all responsibility to the photographer, that they have hired and paid. Excellent! Will the investigation also look into which of his previous work is faked, or the history of the managers at Reuters who made the decisions to hire him and use his stuff, of the work of the other folks those managers hired? I wouldn't bet on it.
Hey - I got an idea. Since the international media plays such an important role in informing the world, shouldn't they be responsibile to the world community the same way as, for instance, soldiers? Couldn't the international criminal court at the Hague put journalists on trial? All it needs is another piddling convention to be signed into international law...
And doesn't deliberate falsification of the facts into wartime propaganda in favor of one party (Hezbollah) make him (Hajj) or them (Reuters) legitimate military targets for the other party (Israel)? I need to read into the conventions, but remember the incident where NATO wasted that Serb TV station for spreeading hostile propaganda? Perhaps that be done in a third country .... interesting, at minimum Israel should issue international arrest warrants for the journalists involved.
This is the most disgusting piece of amature work I have seen in my life. I use photoshop almost every day and I can think of a dozen ways to fake a photo. If anybody is interested here is a little bit of Photoshop work that I did on a photo of St Pauls Cathedral taken in 1940. I did it not to lie but to make a point. Here is the link enjoy. http://uppompeii.blogspot.com/2006_06_01_uppompeii_archive.html
your have to scroll down to find the photos. By the way Baron I sent you this as an attatchment to an e-mail a month ago or there abouts
Yorkshireminer,
Yes I remember that image, and a good photoshop job it was, too! Monochrome makes it a bit easier, in my experience.
BTW (and this is for everyone else, too): I read just about all the mail we get (ignoring the obvious spam), but it has gotten so bad that I can't respond to more than about 25% or so of the tips sent to us -- there's just too much.
So don't feel bad if you sent me something and you didn't hear back. I read it, and probably enjoyed it. But, as I've said before, I fought the email and the email won.
This whole [burgeoning] subject of faked photo-news would make a good little documentary.
I even have a provisional title:
"An 'Inconvenience' Truth".
Sorry for any....
What they seem to forget is we can fact check their asses.
BTW this all started with Qana. And we are not done with that either.
=========================
The Hizbollah story of Qana is unraveling further.
A French language Lebanese publication, citing an unnamed source in Hezbollah, has claimed that the organization placed a rocket launcher on the roof of the notorious building in Qana to provoke an Israeli attack and brought invalid children inside to serve as victims and blacken Israel's name.
The wheels are coming off.
Baron,
Wars are great traffic boosters (damn). My minimum stats are double my previous average. Comments way up too.
Now I understan Hearst - "You provide the pictures," he wrote, — "I'll provide the war."
