A group calling itself “The Secret Organization of al-Qaida in Europe” has claimed credit for today’s bombings in London:
In the new statement, the group said “the heroic mujahedeen carried out a blessed attack in London, and now Britain is burning with fear and terror, from north to south, east to west.”
“We warned the British government and the British people repeatedly. We have carried out our promise and carried out a military attack in Britain after great efforts by the heroic mujahedeen over a long period to ensure its success.”
“We continue to warn the governments of Denmark and Italy and all crusader governments that they will receive the same punishment if they do not withdraw their troops from Iraq and Afghanistan,” the statement went on.
It was signed “The Secret Organization of al-Qaida in Europe.” |
Possible reasons:
1. | The terrorists’ operational structure in the two Anglosphere countries is so compromised and degraded that they simply cannot mount serious attacks there. |
2. | Denmark and Italy get to go first, so they are mentioned specifically. |
3. | The jihadis simply forgot and left them out of the list. |

Corollary to your reason #1:
The jihadists see Denmark and Italy as non-retaliators.
graf von salam:
The Baron's link omitted an important part of the text of the terrorist message, at least as far as it exposes the kind of thinking we dealing with. Here's part of what was said:
We continue to warn the governments of Denmark and Italy and all the Crusader governments that they will be punished in the same way if they do not withdraw their troops from Iraq and Afghanistan. He who warns is excused.
And then they have this direct quote from the Koran:
God says: "You who believe: If ye will aid (the cause of) Allah, He will aid you, and plant your feet firmly."
Analysis of the document is useful to the extent that it ought to put paid to any drivel about 'tolerance' for terrorists. Notice the London news was not using "insurgents" to name this group.
Analysis is also useful in pointing out the inherent violence in Islam. As Fjordman says, mixing Western culture and Muslim culture is like trying to integrate fire and water. I say let's hose off the centuries of accumulated fiery violence and be done with it.
PartTimeSock -- You're right; I should have noticed that it said "al Qaeda in Europe".
Always is right: Denmark and Italy are non-retaliators.
Why not threaten them ? If these countries can be made to fold on their minimal war on terror commitments with threats and bombs elsewhere, it's a freebie.
Note that business about the "cheerful one and undaunted fighter." Plenty of honorifics are assigned as sideboys to Mohammad, particularly when barbarous murderers are invoking his name, but the choice of those particular terms is interesting. Are there some jihadist somebodies someplace acting cheerless and daunted ?
Yeah, we can dissect the announcement all we want, but its best use is toilet paper. Only thing we need to learn about these people is how to kill them in big bleeding batches.
Jefe -- I don't know; both Rune and Fjordman seem to disagree with you about Denmark. We'll see -- the Danish mettle hasn't been tested yet.
If only all the Europeans were like Fjordman. He says: "Muslims living among us must be brought to accountability. They must either leave Islam or forced to leave non-Muslim countries. Islam is terrorism. It must be banned."
If the Norwegian authorities find out his identity, they're bound to jail him for hate crimes.
