A story in this morning’s San Francisco Chronicle:
Federal agents have broken up what they say was an al Qaeda terrorist cell operating in the San Joaquin County city of Lodi, arresting two men, one of whom admitted attending training camps in Pakistan to learn “how to kill Americans,” according to published reports.

The Bee reported that investigators also detained Muhammed Adil Khan and Shabbir Ahmed for questioning and that both are being held on immigration violations.
Ahmed was imam of the Lodi Muslim Mosque, the Lodi News-Sentinel reported on its Web site. |
In the days following the September 11 attacks on the World Trade Center and the Pentagon, Khan condemned the attacks, Farrow said. Several months later, Khan joined the leaders of local Christian churches and a synagogue to issue a Declaration of Peace condemning terrorism and stressing the common origins of each religion, Farrow said. |
They’re getting better at taqiyya.

I guess that 12 step "fake it til you feel it" stuff is nonsense. Didn't work here.
Because the media want to print what fits their world view, they tend to record what people SAY, not as much what they DO (unless it is a conservative, then they are all over actions). So if, say, the murderer of Theo Van Gogh (hope I spelled it correctly) had pinned a note to his body with a knife which read, "I do this in the name of peace, so that there can be peace between us!" He most likely would not have gotten nearly so much bad press.
Although it wasn't covered much in the US.
As I understand it, a Muslim can say almost anything a dhimmi wants to hear so long as the utterance furthers Islam. Reminds me a bit of the children's ploy: saying something with crossed fingers behind the back. But the stakes are bigger in the Islamic "game."
If I remember correctly, more than one post-9/11 imam spouted comforting, pc words. How many were availing themselves of taqiyya?
This story is near and dear to me, as I just so happen to have been raised in Lodi (I only live 10 miles from there now).
There's something strange about this story that I can't quite put a finger on.
Regardless of what the guy said after 9/11, the government had him on a watch list for quite some time before the arrests.
"Reminds me a bit of the children's ploy: saying something with crossed fingers behind the back."
Regarding the idea of Taqiyya, it's worth noting that every nation/society engages in this practice whenever it suits them. Want an excellent example? Read up on the promises made by the Allies (particularly FDR) to the Poles in WWII.
Musharraf might not make it until the end of the year.
The Saudis want him dead.
Once he is gone then we have lost Pakistan.
I see the situation as even more critical than Iran.
I don't recall the Poles having sworn allegiance to the Axis powers or swearing an oath to god to kill every one of us, man, woman, and child, every where we were to be found. So what is a little lie amongst murderers?
Expat, that's interesting information. Have you blogged on it yet? If so, I missed it.
If not, don't keep us in suspense -- give us more info. What are your sources?
